In the winter of 2016 I was asked to come on board for another short feature as unit stills for behind the scenes and promotional materials. The Wynters Men, set in 1854, is another period piece following three escaped convicts who must endure a harsh winter on the run in a bid to win their freedom.
And when it comes to realism, what was true for the characters was true for the cast & crew. The filming took places across 12 days of bitter cold, although I was only on set for 4 of them. One day of the days I was there had consistent downpour which left us all soaked to the bone. However, most days involved foil blankets for the cast to keep them warm, needed as many of the scenes involved them getting submerged in streams or lakes. Craft services were getting hot teas & coffees out as fast as they could make them to keep spirits up.
Filmed in the beautiful forests of Hampshire, in the south of England, the weather lead to dramatic light saturating the scenes making for a deeply cinematic palette full of rich tones. In spite of how cold and wet it all was, I was pleased to walk away with some amazing shots.
