Personal Work
Ideas are wonderful - they inspire, they delight. But to bring them to life requires experimentation, the work behind the scenes. Growth happens in darkness, it requires freedom, it demands passion, attention, and space.
This is a space where I can bring to light some of the work that I made for me. To challenge, to delight, to grow. Maybe work that doesn’t fit my main portfolio, but it captivates in its own way here.
mewithoutYou
Philadelphia based mewithoutYou are a band I’ve seen a score of times and listened to for decades. So when they announced that they were going to be hanging it all up after many years by going on one last tour I knew I had to be there.
John Mark McMillan
John Mark McMillan (and band), based out of Charlotte, NC, recently came through Nashville, TN on their Awake In The Dream tour. This was my experience.
Puerto Rico
In March of 2019 I went with a small team from my church to spend 3 weeks in Puerto Rico. Although it was 18 months after Hurricane Maria had hit, there was still plenty of clean-up to do as much of the rebuilding efforts had focussed on popular tourist and commercial areas. This is part of that story.
Landscapes - Dyptychs
A diptych is a way of presenting two pieces of art as one. In this series of landscapes, I went out looking for photographs I could create that would be shown as a set and play off one another.
Child of Light
A few years back I was working with a production company in the UK who approached me with an intriguing project. They had a fantasy short in production and not only did they want me to edit it, but they wanted a series of portraits made of the main cast for the promotional materials.
South Africa
I took these photos on a trip to South Africa in 2013. I’m posting them now, not only because it was a wonderful trip, but also because it was on this trip that I first met a group of friends from Nashville, TN, which would eventually lead to the contacts I made to move, settle, and live here.
Landscapes - Triptychs
Triptychs are a form of art which takes three parts and makes them as one. Originally this was one painting made in three sections connected on panels together, but eventually the form became any three pieces that worked together to create a whole greater than that of their parts.
The Wynters Men
In the winter of 2016 I was asked to come on board for another short feature as unit stills for behind the scenes and promotional materials. The Wynters Men, set in 1854, is another period piece following three escaped convicts who must endure a harsh winter on the run in a bid to win their freedom.
David’s Tent
The first year I went to David’s Tent was just as just as an attendee. I’d heard about it from friends who has attended its launch the year before. An event of Christian worship music that went non-stop for 72 hours. No breaks, no stopping for sermons or seminars, just people singing praises to God for 72 hours straight. I was intrigued but unsure whether I would love it or feel overwhelmed.
Landscapes - Trafalgar
Just a quick reflection upon my travels and what it means to be home.
The Secret
At first it may look like I’ve taken to dabbling in the wedding photography industry, but alas not. I’ll leave that job to far braver men and women. No, these photos are from the set of a short feature called The Secret.
Landscapes - Travels
A few shots from around the world. Sydney, London, Old San Juan, Bermuda. Some famous, some not. I just love the colours.
