Landscapes - Trafalgar

Just a quick reflection upon my travels and what it means to be home.

Here are three shots of Nelson’s Column from Trafalgar Square in London, the city of my birth. They’re taken from some of the many times I have passed that monument. I enjoy photographing this location not just for what it means to the city and it’s culture, but also because of my personal connection to Nelson, my 7th great uncle.

I reflect upon his spirit of adventure and how he travelled around the globe and I see, in some small way, the same spirit which led me to pack up my life and move halfway around the globe to Nashville, TN.

I think about what it means to build something that will leave a legacy. Something worthy of a monument. I don’t know what the future holds, but I know that I am building my own small thing. It probably won’t end up the same way that his life did, but I’m at peace with that. I don’t know that I care to do really great deeds, I’d much rather do good deeds with great conviction and see where that leads me. I wonder if Nelson felt the same way and ended up there anyway?

We can all reflect upon our histories, and hopefully upon our legacies too.
